Sedum

Sedums ( or stonecrops as they are often called) are a range of succulent plants  exceptionally hardy, drought tolerant and  need little  maintenance. They have fleshy leaves and flat star shaped flowers.

Thriving in sun and well- drained soil they are known for their attractiveness to pollinators and can often be seen with an abundance of butterflies resting on their blooms.

The two main types of sedum are low growing or creeping varieties and upright border varieties.

Planting in full sun for best growth and flowering, these are perfectly suited to sandy, gravelly or poor soil conditions. When first planted water regularly until established, after that very little watering is needed except perhaps in prolonged dry spells( their leaves are thick and fleshy, adapted to store water which makes them drought tolerant once established)

Sedums can withstand very cold temperatures and survive were other plants may struggle. The flowers of sedum can come in shades of white, pink, red and yellow so will blend in to any colour scheme.
